I first heard "Twin Earth" in the spring of '93 on a radio show called Metalshop. The announcer said something like, "Up next, we've got fresh metal that you'll swear was recorded in 1969." As a kid who knew hair-metal, a little bit of thrash, and not much else, I didn't get it at all. As an adult, I can easily identify the main influences here: MC5, Sabbath, Hawkwind, in roughly equal measure. "Twin Earth" has an off-kilter rhythm, while "Dinosaur Vacuum" is built around a pretty standard guitar riff. "Cge Around The Sun" starts out as a weird acoustic thing, detours into a twangy sitar solo, and ends with an impossibly long scream. Nearly the entire album is drenched in a trebly haze of fuzz that makes wonder if your speakers or headphones are fucked up. Dave Wyndorf is as twisted as ever lyrically, but mostly shouts his lines like a demented, but totally hep, street poet. And on the blues cover "Evil (Is Goin' On)," he hams it up to an almost Glenn Danzig level. To be honest, Superj
