People used to think this was Megadeth's worst album (until RISK came along, that is!) but I always liked this CD..."Mary Jane," "In My Darkest Hour" and "Hook In Mouth" are some of 'Deth's best work, by a very shortlived lineup. Whatever happened to Chuck Behler (drums) and Jeff Young (guitar) who played on this album and then seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth?

From: Maniak Date: June 11, 2003 at 15:52
This album kinda stinx....but believe me....Risk stinx a lot more....it`s more like a pop album than thrash ! :S

More good music from Megadeth. To bad the production sounds like shit on this one.

From: RR-Finland Date: September 18, 2003 at 6:18
Very hard to get in with this record. Sound is raw and catcy guitar work doesnīt appear much, which is trade mark of this band. Best is yet to come...

From: Zze Date: October 30, 2003 at 19:25
I didnīt knew this album until recently ( I really donīt know cause I know both Rust in Peace and Peace Sells since 1991 ) but it didnīt dissapoint me. ita a great speed/thrash/power masterwork and, altought some riffs here and there sound a bit weird, who can deny that songs like Hook in Mouth and In My Dasrkest Hour are classics ?

I just watched the classic 80s metal documentary "The Decline of Western Civilization part II: The Metal Years" for the first time in many years, and y'know what? Megadeth are the only band in the whole movie who don't come off like complete idiots!

From: Twitch Date: May 22, 2004 at 1:25
Hook In Mouth is an incredibly original and well-constructed tune, musically and lyrically... the rest of the album's kinda ehh 'cept for Mary Jane...

From: Richierocker Date: May 30, 2004 at 16:08
This album is aweosme and it rocks!! Mary jane, hook in mouth, in my darkest hour, are just a few of the insane guitar driven energetic songs from this band, ya Whatever happened to Jeff and Chuck? a definate must have for any fan of this music and of Megadeth.

From: Shannon Date: June 20, 2004 at 0:42
Although I really don't want to say that this album sucks, it kinda does. But there is some interesting guitar riffing going on here...

From: Shannon Date: June 20, 2004 at 0:45
The drummer on this album was really fat and the guitarist had a gay Bon Jovi looking haircut! huh-huh. huh-huh-huh.

From: Big Papa K Date: July 7, 2004 at 18:28
Maybe the forgotten Megadeth album of the era, this is an excellent follow up. The tunes are better written, but the Sex Pistols cover is useless. 8/10

From: Psychotron502 Date: August 4, 2004 at 20:11
i love this album. in my darkest hour is a great song. i dont see why people dont like it (i dont see why they dont like Risk either, probably cuz theyre dicks that dont like anything that isnt 175 bpm.....) good album.

From: Steve Date: September 2, 2004 at 10:20
I dont understand why people say this is their worst album! Peace Sells is worse. This album is fucking killer!! Liar by far the best song with killer lyrics and the intro riff is awesome!

From: RATTLEHEAD Date: September 8, 2004 at 19:23
This isn't my favorite album but it's definitly not the worst. Risk is a good album too,you just have to give them a chance.

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 19, 2005 at 0:56
Easily megadeth's worst release in the 80's! The worst part of so far so good is the lyrics(what is dave writing) and the songs here are much less inconsistent and uninspired than the songs on peace sells and their debut album. Anarchy in uk is one of their worst songs. the only song here i like is hook in mouth, which got some good solo. And the cover? It looks like a punk cover! ughh! Overall,an album only or diehards fan like myself ratings:6/10

From: ed Date: May 12, 2005 at 16:37
Some people may have been dissapointed by this album, but not me! I love this one and I can say is one of my favorites. Hook In Mouth is awesome, anti-P.M.R.C. song! Anyone remember the P.M.R.C. movement? We, the metalheads, were mad. Fuck the P.M.R.C.! Go home and leave us alone! I used to say this every time.

From: metalalways Date: February 16, 2006 at 0:26
hook in mouth kicks ass Fuck The P.M.R.C. long live megadeth and heavy metal music forever!!!!!!

From: pie75 Date: September 7, 2010 at 7:58
after the great peace sells this was a big let down it's not a shit album by any means just an average one with some good songs but mind you the good is very good like mary jane, hook in mouth and in my darkest hour however anarchy sux even the original sux let alone a cover of it megadeth would soon get better then this that's for sure

This is a brilliant and very drunk-aggressive album when Dave was in anger, pain and under the influence of lots of drugs. The original mix by Paul Lani was actually really good, unsurprisingly similar to Peace Sells..., but for some reason Michael Wagener was brought in to improve the sound, but it was unfortunately changed for the worse. I'd give Wagener's sound on the 1988 disc a 3/5, Lani 4/5, but the remix by Dave himself from 2004, I would give 5/5 because it improves lots of stuff. I know some hardcore fans hate remixes, but I am happy Dave took lots of time and energy to remix (with Ralph Patlan) because especially this platinum album So Far, So Good... So What! has been the most improved, and rock hard! This is rather heavy and fast aggressive 'Deth. I like all tunes, the cover song they did their own, and In my darkest our (about Burton's death as the inspiration for this song) is one of the all-time BEST 'Deth songs ever. Remixed '04 it sounds HUGE, drums are perfect!
