Even better than the debut. Mark Dodson gave this album the crushing bottom end that the debut lacked. Not a single poor song at all.Craig is shredding and the band pull out all the stops. This is a cast iron heavy metal classic.

Exelente album, pero para la epoca es solo un disco mas. En general es un disco muy potente.Espectacular ¨Brutal at sea¨. 7 de 10

This cd captured the bands heavier psycho dark under tones brought out by producer Mark Dadson who also mixed the cd.I think Elektra wanted a more commercialized metal /thrash band, which in turn had more polished sound and mix .This cd is a great effort by the band ,in no way dose The Dark stand up to the self title mega metal classic.I wish that Terry Date would have worked on The Dark .Production and mix might have had that Raw sound that has a merciless onslaught on you .

Great Heavy/Thrash Metal album, junto al primero Joyasas de la banda en mi lista personal de bandas y de albums estan en un lugar muy alto el tipo de albums con temas hechos para una batalla mortal que te dan una energia extra para ese momento de la verdad, and this album is from 1986 not 1987 4.5/5

My favourite song has to be Method To Your Madness but the whole album is definitely classic thrash/heavy metal.

Classic Metal Church release!!!...who hasn't heard their anthem "Start The Fire" at least once???,ah???...a must song for any self respected "metal head" outta there...about the rest of the songs i also take "Method To Your Madness","Over My Dead Body","The Dark" & "Western Alliance" as "mandatory" to listen to...enjoyable record...85/100

Metal Church continue on with their not-quite-thrash sound, channeling the heaviest, fastest parts of Judas Priest (think "Riding On The Wind" and "Freewheel Burning") but with a more workmanlike approach. Also like Priest (specifically Defenders Of The Faith), The Dark is held back by very dated '80's production, and a try-hard metal anthem in "Start The Fire" that is pretty juvenile. On the plus side, "Watch The Children Pray" is an even better slow song than the previous album's "Gods Of Wrath," and "Ton Of Bricks," "Method To Your Madness" and the title track are top highlights. A few songs in the late going tend to blur together a bit, but each is strong when taken on its own. I prefer the debut, but The Dark is a good follow-up.
