| After stumbling a bit with Glorious Collision (as much a problem of production as songwriting), and nearly breaking up, Evergrey is back with Hymns For The Broken. Nobody does quite what these guys do, with their signature brand of morose, heavy, thought-provoking metal, putting the power in power/prog. The only weak point on this album is that the pace of many songs just seems too slow, and the disc lapses into occasional droning passages that are had to stay focused on, which isn't helped by the overall length of some tracks. Favorites include "King Of Errors," "A New Dawn," "Barricades" and "Black Undertow." "Missing You" is the requisite emotionally-wrenching piano ballad, but it's marred by a lack of an identifiable rhythm, and more so by Tom's voice going badly off-key in places.
