When it comes to doom metal look no further. This album rules the roost. Candlemass combined sludging, heavy masses of guitar depression with operatic vocals and truly frightening lyrics. This album is heavy, melodic, and foreboding. I first heard it at 16 and it still moves me. Lars Johanssen is no slouch on lead guitar. Sometimes his solos sound out of place but he is very talented. Check out "At The Gallows End", "Well of Souls" and "Dark Are The Veils of Death" for some of the best songs.

This is, in my opinion, THE REAL THING as it concerns to Doom Metal. A total milestone in the genere and a metal masterpiece. The classical line-up is now together again, yeahhhh¡¡¡¡

Chopin's Marche Funebre matches the feel of this album perfectly...

This is a d*mn good record !-the best move they ever made was replacing J.Langquist from Epicus' with Marcolin .

Yes,I think Nightfall' blows it away !-Then,again its not fair to compare an incredible vocalist like Marcolin' to a sub-par singer like VInce Neil' .

This album has in my very humble opinion the band's best cut ever in the shape of "The Well Of Souls" anticipated by a great intro in "Gothic Stone" one...tracks 7,9 & the instrumental 10 are also good pieces of Doom Metal...Candlemass is undoubtebly and with no remorse the best band of the genre along with Saint Vitus.70/100
