This is truly disturbing. These guys need help..or girlfriends quickly. Their technical ability is quite impressive, but the lyrics are....brainless and grose to say the least. I guess it's the only way they'll get noticed. Pity, they are very competent on their instruments and tight. Overall, the album is nothing short of bizzare....2/10 (for ability)

An album chock-full of excellent riffs that are mostly hidden within the terrible production. Some of the songs are just downright FUN to play along with, such as Entrails Ripped From a Virgin's Cunt and Hammer Smashed Face. Barnes terrible vocals actually sound OK due to a combination of his extreme lows and the horrid production. I have to admit, though, it's rather scary that the production on this album was so bad considering the production on Butchered at Birth was actually pretty good.

First album I ever heard from Cannibal Corpse. This CD is one of the heaviest releases I've ever heard. Production quality is pretty good on the album. Vocals are quite unintelligable on this album (they are on prior releases as well). Standout tracks include: Hammer Smashed Face (as heard in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective) and Addicted to Vaginal Skin.

Uhm....have they forgotten about butchered at birth album on this site??? I remember when i bought butchered at birth, my mother went crying when she saw the album cover, she couldnt believe someone made something like this, with those babies hangin around in the back. She thought it was women humiliation, Well i told her it was only a drawing, and she almost kicked my ass!! I never showed her the inside drawing of Tomb of the mutilated. I would be dead by now. Hail 2 the cannibals!!

I have no problems with violent music and I listen to a lot of it. Hovever, I honestly think that songs like Necropedophile are pushing it too far- I mean, anyone who's into having sex with a dead childs corpse needs serious help in my opinion. I know this stuff is just meant as shock value, but I don't see the humour in molesting dead children.

From: Metal T Date: April 15, 2005 at 19:40
Right on shinji--I have no problems with violent music as well.I just a have a problem with violent stupidity. These are the same clowns that think movies like "I Spit On Your Grave" and "Last House On The Left" are "really cool".Exodus' Bonded By Blood record was always pretty mean and brutal, but its an excellent record, because as hellacious as that one was they used a certain amount of tact on there. This band is just after that shock value to make $ and they don't give a f**k.-'I cum blood ???

VERY NAUSEANGLY BORING!!!, I PREFER DEBBIE GIBSON, THE TOTAL EXTREME WAY!!!

When I first heard Hammer-smashed face, I thought it was a good song. But when I read the lyrics for the other songs on this album, I went from being sick with disgust to very angry. If your a fan of this band, thats your right- but I have the right to express what I think of this bands lyrical content, and I must say that anyone who thinks killing babies, molesting dead children and violently attacking womens sexual organs, is cool, is really pathetic- and this band is pathetic if they think

From: shinji Date: May 23, 2005 at 1:06
that their lyrics can shock people like me. I listen to a lot of stuff ranging from Slayer, Cradle of Filth, Death, Bleeding Through, to Skinny Puppy and many other bands. But I will always be against bands like Cannibal Corpse because I feel that they have violated me personally.

All right, I,m the same guy who trashed Cannibal Corpse because I was offended by the lyrics of the song "Necropedophile" from Tomb of the Mutilated, because its about molesting children. A year later, I still find this song disturbing, but with an open mind I decided to listen to some of their more recent albums, and guess what? Cannibal Corpse is one of my favourite Death Metal bands now! I think Chris Barnes is the reason the earlier CC albums are fucked up,

From: shinji Date: March 3, 2006 at 13:53
whereas the CC albums featuring George Fisher albums are nowhere near as fucked up as the Chris Barnes CC albums, and I think the recent CC albums Gore Obsessed and the Wretched Spawn are awesome albums! This band has talent! I guess because my first exposure to CC songs like "necropedophile" gave me the first impression that this band promotes child molesting - but I guess thats Chris Barnes for you. But theres nothing even remotely related to child molesting on CC's recent albums!

Thanks in no small part to Jim Carrey, Tomb of the Mutilated is the album that put Cannibal Corpse on the map, and it still remains their best-known album. Their sound was quite different from the other big death-metal bands of the time, like Obituary or Morbid Angel. They had plenty of musical chops, but technical prowess was secondary to sheer brutality. The guitars are so trebly, they almost sound like whit noise, but that also allows Alex Webster's popping bass to really cut through, which was a rarity in death metal. Chris Barnes's vocals are super-guttural and mostly indecipherable, which may be just as well, because Tomb of the Mutilated contains the band's sickest lyrics (although some songs on The Bleeding come close). I absolutely understand why many are repulsed by this, however the band has pointed out that many songs were inspired by real-life events. "Addicted To Vaginal Skin" is about, and contains a sample of, serial killer Arthur Shawcross. And, as metalheads should kn

... know better than most, singing ABOUT something is not the same as advocating it. Morbid fascination does not equal endorsement. I do agree that Barnes is the main culprit, as the band has stayed no less brutally violent with George on the mic, but seem much more driven by fantasy and horror than grisly reality, as the rest of the band took more of a hand in lyric-writing as well. (Also, George is a better vocalist than Chris, whose one trick was his gurgly deep growls). For its impact at the time, and the number of perennial live staples held within (the immortal "Hammer Smashed Face" chief among them), Tomb of the Mutilated is an essential album in the genre.
